Welcome to theLAB’s page for events with flavor!
Join Aquela Kombucha at theLAB Porto for an exclusive talk and tasting on Thursday, October 10, from 18h30 to 20h. You’ll have the opportunity to taste several of their products and learn about the brand’s history. Aquela Kombucha was founded in Porto by Maria Lima, who started brewing it in her mother’s kitchen. Her love for the delicious, fizzy drink and a desire to bring it to more people turn this small production into a thriving business.
Kombucha is a fermented tea with a wide range of health benefits. It is a source of probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that promote a healthy gut and can aid in digestion. It also contains antioxidants from the black or green tea base, which may help protect cells from damage and reduce inflammation. As a low-calorie, naturally carbonated beverage, kombucha can serve as a healthier alternative to sugary soft drinks. Aquela Kombucha also focuses on sustainable and organic ingredients.
In addition to the tasting, a member of the Aquela Kombucha team will lead a talk, sharing their journey and expertise. You’ll also learn the essential steps to making your own kombucha at home and will receive a liquid SCOBY—a live culture of bacteria and yeast—to get you started on your own fermentation journey. A new cellulose disc, the classic SCOBY, will form on its own as a byproduct of your first brew. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your knowledge of kombucha and become a home brewer yourself.
